Ruger P95 pistol: Polymer Firepower for Less
February 1st, 2010 by business web hosting
A great value choice for defensive pistol, the Ruger P95 has proven to be a reliable and accurate performer throughout the years. Sometimes it can be had for under 0 which makes the P95 an incredible value. This is the KP95PR15 model using a ambidextrous hammer dropping, manual safety. Other features include a stainless steel investment cast slide, matte-finished reinforced-polymer frame, a Picatinny-style accessory rail, ambi mag release, 15 round steel magazine, and high contrast sights. I haven’t shot the P95 but associates indicate it is reliable and accurate, although maybe not to Glock or Sig standards. Upsides would therefore include: good reliability and accuracy, lightweight (but still 5 oz heavier than Glock 17), easy take down, ergonomic feeling, good grip angle, good sights, good SA/DA trigger, durable, and acceptance of lighting products. Downsides might include: thicker than other designs, bulkier appearance, bulky slide release leaver, and goofy-looking safety design. But these are minor criticisms on a well-executed 9mm service type pistol. It will be hard to match its performance at this price point. Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 7 out of 10 ** Thanks goes to vanwagenen’s in Provo, Utah, USA for hosting this review. Without them it would not be possible. This is another “combat” review by Nutnfancy ie an impromptu, non-scripted, non-researched review of the weapon using my existing knowledge. Some details and omissions should be expected. Comparison to Glock 17, my 9mm standard: WEIGHT: Advantage G17 by 5 ounces FIREPOWER: Advantage G17 by at least 2 rounds DURABILITY: Advantage G17… durable for over 100000 rounds ACCURACY: Advantage G17 but not by much ERGONOMICS: Subjective by for me Advantage G17 by SIMPLICITY: Advantage G17… rarely matched for simplicity ACCESSORIES: Advantage G17 by large margin, many available PRICE: Advantage Ruger P95 by large margin TRACK RECORD: Advantage G17 by large margin, unparalleled acceptance by military and police units, proven world wide

Just picked one of these up today. Cost me $390. What a difference a year and a half makes! I have heard both good and bad things about this pistol but half of the guns in my cabinet are Ruger. I have had nothing but good luck with Ruger, and intend to keep this relationship going.

I have or have had a P345,SR9.P90 and P95 and they ALL shot anything, all the time and were very accurate!! The SR9 was esecially a tack driver!

I have replaced the guide spring, went to better mag’s I think Beretta. I also had to get the barrel and extractor pin machined to work right. Oh the sites where junk too and there is a fix also from Ruger.
But after I spent 300 more over the years getting it to fire anything but hot +p there are much better guns out there. Heck I haven’t seen this gun new in a gun shop around here in years none of them will carry it. Spend a little more and buy a used glock or xd

They have done some minor changes in 2006 I think when they added the rail and some small stuff. See even the one he is testing is not the one they made for like 8 or 9 years.
Ruger had issues with the both the p95 and 97. They had to deal with mag springs, ejector pin and the barrel on some guns. I had them all.
The thing is if they were still 225 new with stainless slide then its not bad.

@FergusonTO35 a good +p works ok but what they fell for now its not worth it. Much better guns out there like glock,xd,sig etc..
I paid 250 for mine back in 98. I hardly even take it out anymore. I would just sell it but since it was my first pistol it kinda still means something.

I am very happy with my P95. Its as accurate as any other pistol I’ve fired including Beretta, Sig, and Glock. The double action pull is really good, it feels like an S&W revolver that has had an action job. The single action pull is ok but has alot of travel. My P95 feeds stubby handloads that jam my P226, I can’t remember the last time it malfunctioned.
Most people think you can’t buy a good pistol for less than $500.00 but with the P95 you certainly can. Ruger say this pistol is +P+ rated.

It seems like you get a good one or a bad one. Mine eats anything I put through it, including stuff that jams my Sig P226. Very comfortable to shoot and Ruger says its +P+ rated.

I picked up one from a guy I work with. He said he shot several 100 rounds with not one glitch. Today, I backed that up with 200 of my own. Some I loaded, some store bought. Not one glitch.
I have long lanky fingers, so the fat grip (why he sold it) feels great to me.
I don’t dig the plastic much, but it weighs almost the same as my wife’s 2″ sp101, with twice the firepower, and nearly as compact.
The single action pull is AWFUL. Pretty much a hamerless double action in my opinion

I’ve owned one for over a year. For $300 it’s a nice pistol. So far 800 rounds through it and no issues.

Its good to know some things are still made in the USA
February 1st, 2010 at 8:29 pm
dont worry with the well known feed issues you b lucky to shoot yourself.
February 1st, 2010 at 8:29 pm
I own a p95 and you get what you pay for. They are known for feed and pop up issues. I have tried different clips and had two very good smiths adjust it. I get semi ok results with +p rounds.
Dont waste your time buy a xd or something better

I’ve owned one since they first came out…very reliable and affordable…well-built..and it can handle all the old P-85 and P-89 15 round magazines…
February 1st, 2010 at 8:29 pm
i believe that the luger was the first pistol with that type of safety
February 1st, 2010 at 8:29 pm
man i had a p95 !! i sold it !! it was a decent gun !!
February 1st, 2010 at 8:29 pm
To DevLcL I own a P95 and it’s been as relaible as a bank vault. Every manufacturer has made a clunker. How they deal with show’s their quality. As Nutnfancy said for the price can’t go wrong with the P95.

really good gun for outside or inside protection, but for my inside i have my iac billerica 12g with a 19″ barrle with a tact light, no one will leave alive. but the p95 is one badass gun im going to pick one up soon!
